A home seller that is allowing buyers to walk through their home may not realize how easy it is to make a buyer lose interest in their home. Buyers may feel uncomfortable walking through someone’s home. And this uncomfortable feeling is only made worse when walking through an intimate area of the home like the master bedroom.
Avoid killing the buyer’s vibe by staying away from these eight deal bedroom dealbreakers.
Leftovers From Animals
The smell of animals is often intensified by where they sleep and sometimes where they go to the bathroom. Keeping a litter box or even pads in the bedroom for animals to use to go to the bathroom is a huge turn off for buyers. Even if these items are not kept in the bedroom the animal will leave their scent behind if they do routinely sleep in these.
Take care to clear out animal beds and toys. Then try to de-scent the area by cleaning the bedding and carpet.
Up Close and Personal
Few people intend to advertise their intimate photos to buyers. However, sometimes homeowners forget that they have personal photos out in the bedroom. These photos may have buyers feeling embarrassed and certainly distracted after they seem them.
Be sure to pack them away. And do not simply stick them in the closet as the buyer is bound to look there when considering storage space.
Medical History
There are many items that people must use before bed. Medications, oral or topical, and medical equipment are best packed away for the duration of the visit.
Even though a homeowner may need some medical equipment to have a peaceful sleep the buyer does not want to maneuver around it. Items that are not typically found in a bedroom can throw off the tour and leave a buyer thinking about the homeowner instead of the home.
Intimate Accessories
No one wants to happen upon another person’s intimate accessories. Whether they be clothing or toys. Even if a homeowner thinks that hiding them in a drawer or an area that they do not use often, the buyer is bound to find them.
Buyers are evaluating the house and they open every door and drawer that they can find. This can lead them to some unpleasant discoveries.
Moisturizers
People do not like to think about others during intimate acts while they are touring a home. Even though certain items may have a totally different meaning in another room in the house, there are some things best left out of the bedroom during showings. Think moisturizers or lotions. It just sends the wrong message.
Dirty or Clean Clothes
Clothes laying around the room is not pleasant. Even if they are clean and smell fresh it still gives an untidy look.
Even worse is if the hamper completely full of stinky clothes. Wash all clothes and put them in their appropriate storage area. The hamper does not need to be taken out of the room but leave it open to show it is empty and clean.
Locks In Strange Places
This is a rather unpleasant problem for buyers to find. Some homes have the locks on doors on the wrong side. A bedroom should absolutely lock from the inside to keep people out when needed. However, if there is a lock on the outside of the room it makes buyers wonder why a homeowner would want to lock anyone into a room.
Bad Reflections
Mirrors are a great addition to a room to make it feel larger. Be sure when placing a mirror it is in a tasteful fashion.
Mirrors covering the walls of a room or even worse on the ceiling does not help the room appear bigger. The buyer is going to feel uncomfortable and so will the real estate agent. Stick with a simple mirror above the dresser if needed.
Prepping a house for a home sale is important. A homeowner needs to be mindful of the people who will be walking through the home. The more comfortable a buyer is the more likely they will leave with pleasant memories which will hopefully lead to an offer. Avoid leaving out any items that could cause them to turn tail and run out of the house.
