Attention Sellers: Keep THESE Out of Your Bathroom
Selling a house is no easy task. You are expected to have your house perfectly maintained, cleaned, and decorated in a way that is appealing to buyers.
The latter isn’t a problem if you have the exact same taste as all the buyers coming through your front door, but that’s not realistic. That means you need to do the work to find out what buyers want to see and what they don’t.
While many people think to do this in the kitchen, living room, and master bedroom, many forget to think about the bathroom. This is a room that buyers are carefully scrutinizing as they tour your house. As a result, it deserves your attention.
With this in mind, here are six things buyers don’t want to find in your bathroom.
-
A place to keep food
Some of you reading this are thinking this is obvious, but others are completely thrown off. Even if you have a large bathroom that could fit a mini fridge, don’t put it in there. This disgusts buyers.
Keep food in the kitchen when selling your house even if you prefer something different when you’re living there. It’s time to think like the buyer.
-
Smart toilet
Yes, buyers are all about finding smart homes and love houses with technology built into them. But the bathroom is one place where they are ok without it.
Toilets that open and close and do any other number of things without you making it happen can be something hard for buyers to overcome.
-
Word art or decoration
Signs with simple messages on it are incredibly popular, but the bathroom isn’t the best place for them when you’re selling your house. To think like a home stager you have to look at the overall picture of the house. A big sign saying “shoot for the stars” or anything else feels out of place in the bathroom.
-
Any type of art that will creep out a buyer
The art that you have on your walls of your house is completely up to you. However, you want to think twice when it’s time to sell.
Inappropriate pictures of you or anyone else should not be on the walls. You want your bathroom to be G-rated and family friendly.
-
Any signs of smoking
The residue of smoking is incredibly difficult to clean off the walls. And, no one wants to see a pile of ash or cigarette butts in the bathroom. If you are a smoker and want to sell your house make sure you do a good job cleaning up so you don’t turn off any potential buyers.
-
A mess
There are a number of different kinds of messes that could be in a bathroom. Potential buyers don’t want to see any of them.
Before you have a showing make sure your bathroom is as clean as can be. You don’t want them to rush through the house, not really seeing what it has to offer, because it’s too dirty.
During a showing you can never be too careful. You don’t know what rooms are really going to speak to a buyer. Do your best to customize the house for the general public to help your house sell fast.
