Warm Up to Winter Home Staging Ideas
Most homeowners wait for spring to sell their house. However, there are some circumstances where homeowners need to sell their house during winter and even over the holidays. Even though everyone will give the advice that spring is the prime season for selling a house, that does not mean it cannot be done in the colder months.
To really knock your home staging out of the park this winter, consider these five steps.
Fill the Yard with ‘Cheer’
Even though snow is going to be covering the ground that does not give a homeowner a free pass on their curb appeal. A homeowner will have a little harder time making their yard look spectacular, but it can be done with a few tricks.
To start, always keep sidewalks and driveways clear of snow and ice. No one wants to fall attempting to look at a house.
In addition to clearing off walkways, look to the roof. Clean out those gutters and make sure the house does not look like it is collapsing under the weight of the snow.
Plus, there is always an opportunity to add in a little holiday cheer by using winter themed plants. A nice pine tree makes a great addition to any snowy scene.
Keep It Toasty
Many people save on their utilities by keeping their thermostat on lower temperatures. While a homeowner can cuddle up under a blanket on a cold day your potential buyer is going to be walking around the house. Turn the heat up to keep them warm. A buyer walking through a cold house may think it is drafty and they are not going to stick around long enough to learn otherwise.
Sitting By The Fire
A fireplace is a wonderful feature to emphasize. During the warm months when the air is running there is no reason to have a roaring fire. However, during the winter having the fire going is a perfect way to set the scene and keep the house warm.
Houses that do not have a fireplace can still set the cozy vibe. Use items like candles to mimic the feel of a fireplace. Then add in blankets and pillows to make the room feel warmer. Buyers will love imagining themselves on the couch under a blanket watching a good holiday movie.
Lean In
A house should always smell good when a buyer walks in. A freshly cleaned home is always a welcoming one. In the winter months, many people like to smell scents like cloves, cinnamon, and oranges. The scent of these spices reminds them of holidays with the family.
Having some soft music playing in the background can help make people feel more relaxed. With that in mind, blaring Christmas music is not the way to go. Instead, go for something more instrumental. Jazz is a popular choice that will still fit the holiday theme.
Decorate for the Season
A little holiday cheer does a house good. When a homeowner decorates their home for the holiday season they have to think about the buyers that are going to be walking through. Having a lawn filled with blow up decorations is a bit too much for many buyers, however, a tasteful wreath on the door is welcoming.
Decorate for the holidays but keep in mind not everyone likes over the top decorations. Keep it simple and keep it classy. Some decorations here and there throughout the house will get the point across without overwhelming any buyers.
The holiday season is a great time to make buyers fall in love with a house. Many people are really looking to settle into their own home during the holidays and may be even more motivated to make an offer. A tastefully decorated home that is kept warm and cozy is going to be just the thing every buyer is wanting this holiday.
